this hurts

there's this video that is out on Youtube that depicts this guy who has an encounter with God and God is slowly chipping away at him with a hammer and chisel. In fact, I think the video is called "God's Chisel." when God starts hammering away, the guy reacts in pain. i'm that guy right now. this all really hurts. my son, gavin, isn't doing as well this morning. just when we think he is beginning to turn the corner and do better, he takes a step back. i know that i say over and over again that his lungs are immature but they are! he is in this place now with the dr's and the nursing staff that they aren't sure if his heart is contributing to his lungs or if his lungs are contributing to his heart, etc. he has a valve that is open (all babies do) that is pushing blood into his lungs, perhaps, and they really want to see if that will close on it's own. babies born at a normal gestation have that valve naturally close. oh God have mercy and grace upon our family and little gavin!
please pray specifically that he would digest his food as the plan is to continue to increase his feedings even though he isn't getting it all the way through. please pray for this PDA valve to close if it is open and that his heart and lungs would stabalize and relax. please pray that there would be NO lung or heart damage as our little kiddo is working so hard. i feel a little disconnected today. i hate it. i continue to think about Scripture and about God's unfailing love and i turn to that now. please pray for tracee and i and our marriage.
"i am laid low in the dust, preserve my life according to your word." Psalm 119:25. this verse sums up how i'm feeling as i am face down on the ground pleading with God for healing and that he would preserve gavin's life according to His word.

  2. I continue to pray for all of you and especially for Gavin's heart, lungs and strength for his whole body.

    I also pray for you and Tracee and grandma, Karen, and grandpa, Mike. Iam so glad you were able to meet my friend, Kathy, yesterday. She is such a special friend to me and an excellent prayer warrior!

I learned about the Power of a Blessing over a child....I pray this blessing over Gavin today...May you be strong enough to bless him with these words from the Lord....It may be powerful to have them written in his room so when you have nothing left you can just Bless this Precious Son of yours...For now, I will continue to pray this over him in behalf of you.

  6. from Psalm 91 "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. They say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in Whom I trust. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge."
    The staff at Phx Christian and many from Palmcroft Bible studies, as well as family and friends are praying for Gavin. I worked in the NICU for 20 yrs (and I think Alyce McDaniels trained me), and these difficult days are "normal" for a premie of his size. I know that doesn't make it any less overwhelming, but know God is working hourly miracles in each of your lives. We pray God's continued peace as you rest in the shelter of His wings.

  7. Im praying for you and little Gavin every night! Hang in there, I know its not fun dealing with the ups and downs. I wanted to pass along this blog by my cousins friend who had a baby born at 25 weeks! (She is now almost 2!) You might find some of the things she writes very easy to relate to!

    I pray for the 3 of you every day and many times throughout the day. The staff at Phoenix Christian loves you and is praying too. Here is one of my favorite verses.

    Ephesians 3:20
    Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.

    God is able to do immeasurably more than what we can even imagine! I am asking God for a miracle in Gavin's little body that is bigger than anything we could ever ask or imagine.

  10. I was listening to KLove on my commute this morning and as I was singing, I realized I was praying for your family. The words resounded in head and I had to share some of the lyrics-
    "When my world is shaking, Heaven stands.
    And when my heart is breaking, I never leave your hands"

    Just like sweet Gavin can fit in your hands, we all fit in our Fathers.

  11. A friend forwarded me a link to your blog and I just wanted to take a moment to (I hope) encourage. My little boy was born at 25 weeks 2 days on 1/17/04. He was born at Chandler Regional, airlifted immediately to Banner Desert where he spent the next 8 weeks and then 4.5 more weeks at Banner Thunderbird. The odds were stacked against him. BPD/CLD, suspected pneumonia, PDA that closed with indocin, IVH Grade 4 right grade 2 left and the dreaded PVL. I echo the verse that Stacy quoted. God will go before you and be with you. Man (and Doctors) cannot possibly know what all this will mean. I heard plenty about the poor outcomes expected for my son but the nurses and Dr.s were wrong. That wasn't the choice that God made in Ty's life. I can't deny that Ty does face some challenges, but most people (including his Doctors) are shocked to meet him and would never guess the journey that led him here.     Ty's Dr. at Banner Desert placed a sign on Ty's isolette that was an adapted version of 1 Cor 1:27 (credited to someone other than Paul oddly enough but I knew better hee hee).

    My little sunshine happy boy shames me all the time because God has used his "weakness" to teach many people in our circle about HIS strength. Jesus be with you - will be carrying you on my knees.
